Figs x Health & Fitness: Shedding those food blogger pounds

Article Written by Kimchi Fig @emanqadeer

It’s that time of the year again, where you’re like what new year resolution?!?
Recently I’ve been taking a slight break from the blogging scene and I’ve been cutting back on all the food posts that spam your feed #notreally. Sigh gone are the days that this would be more lifestyle blog (I hope not).

Currently I’m trying to come back to that idea and decided wouldn’t a fitness post be a good idea? Yes, there was a huge lifestyle change: I’ve been eating clean. Clean as in healthy and not the messed up, “oh I’ll count calories and just have an apple for every meal” and then there’s the “I can’t even look a dessert, let alone carbs”. Nah can’t live like that, if you want dessert just get dessert (you can get a smaller portion)!

Yes changing your diet is the hardest part but here is the intro to a couple of sponsored items (I was sent these products on a trial basis and my opinions are honest, if didn’t work for me I’ve stated it). Below are the products and supplements I tried.

Diet

Nutri Diet – I’ve tried all their shakes,  my favorite was vanilla since it actually tasted like a vanilla shake (so good). The berry and strawberry were decent but for me chocolate was the hardest to swallow since the bitterness took me by surprise.
Honestly speaking, their soups are actually spectacular (much better than the shakes), I even substituted them into my regular diet.
I will admit that Nutri Diet isn’t a good full time option, it does make you lose weight in a short period of time but only if you follow it. Best for when you need to quickly get in shape for an event, wedding etc.

They even have different packages from just substituting one meal to going all out: https://nutridiet.ae/english/buy/

Eatless – it’s a spinach based supplement which helps you well, eat less.
The first time I tried this was mixed in a bottle of water which was deadly. I’m not kidding, super hard to drink spinach flavored water and it felt like I was finishing an endless 500ml bottle. T_T
Instead I tried it mixed in yogurt, which proved to be much better and actually tasted good.
What to do if you don’t have yogurt?
I used to put bits of the powder in my mouth and then wash it down with water, after the first 2 days wasn’t too bad but would still prefer it mixed in yogurt.

Retails for AED 160 for a 2 week pack (14 sachets) at: Life Pharmacy, Good Health, Holland And Barrett.

Both these dietary aids are fantastic and have been curbing my appetite as well as keeping my energy levels high.

Alongside this I’ve changed my diet to:

  1. omit sugar (I never had a lot of sugar anyway so it wasn’t hard)
  2. cut down on carbs, I’m desi I need rice… but not bread!
  3. Added in 2-3 cups of green tea, specifically VerTea which has 6 different types of green tea, that way you don’t bored with just drinking the same thing.

But can someone tell me where to find it? I’m almost out and I can’t find it in supermarkets here. Otherwise I just pick up new brands at local supermarkets, currently trying a zaatar/thyme tea which just reminds me of manakish.

Exercise

As for my exercise regimen I started out with a 3 month membership at Fitness First earlier this year (more like last year) which helped me get started. Took on a bunch of their fantastic classes mainly in the strength & conditioning category: body pump, circuit training, corb, body balance (a combo of yoga/pilates). Combined with about an hour on their machines (treadmill, bicycle, power plate etc) and then another hour on their weight machines – all this made me lose an initial 5-8+ kgs.

Seriously worked hard for the first 2 months, then I just did it on my own, rip to that one month left.

After my membership ended I started working out on my living room carpet with exercise videos on my laptop and going out for a walk/jog at least twice a week.
One thing I will say is motivating yourself is hard but some days you just need to put your workout clothes on and well just run.

This is it for me! Just wanted to add in a little note, I am in no way a fitness professional this is just what worked for me. It took me a lot of time to actually listen to my body and figure out what products and exercises were working and which weren’t. Will hopefully update this soon, but then again me and deadlines don’t really work well together. When is the next Hallyu post, we will never know….
